MINDSET AND MARRIAGE

December 18, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. NLT

A single brother once said that it is not a bad idea for men to slap their wives sometimes. Years after he made that statement, his wife reported him to me. She told me how he physically abused her and his sexcapades with girls in town. The moment she told me that her husband abused her physically, I remembered what he said about husbands slapping their wives. He acted out his belief in marriage. If a man believe that men are polygamous in nature and cannot but cheat, it is just a matter if time, he will cheat on his wife.

One of the things you must prayerfully check before you say 'yes' are the values and belief systems of that brother or sister. When people enter into marriage with the wrong mindset, they act out what they believe. For example, on issues relating to marital conflict resolution, i've heard some persons say things like: " refuse to eat her food to register your displeasure". That counsel is carnal and totally unbiblical. A woman taught extensively on how to have a concubine and not be caught. Surprisingly, that teaching gained traction.

The society is programming the minds of people with the wrong stuff about marriage and most people are imbibing those junks at the expense of their homes. The belief system you enter into marriage with will determine the atmosphere of your marriage. A man that sees women as a piece of trash will end up trashing his wife. As a single, one of the ways to prepare yourself for marital bliss is to check your beliefs about marriage, delete those beliefs that are anti bible and build yourself on what the word says. This also applies to the married.

PRAYER Father, I receive the grace to get rid of junks in my mind in Jesus name
