Ex8:22 But this time I will spare the region of Goshen, where my people live. No flies will be found there. Then you will know that I am the LORD and that I am present even in the heart of your land.

The israelites were kept in Goshen during their stay in Egypt, when God was dealing several plagues on the Egyptians, he preserved them in Goshen during that time. What made Goshen special was because God's peace and stability held sway there.
In our world today, there is chaos every where. Every country is either being besieged by terrorist&insurgents or epidemics. We are living in fear of what may happen in the next minute. Those living in insurgents prone areas are conscious of anything that produces a blast because it could just be a bomb. Fear is everywhere now, even the most secured countries with hi-tech technologies are still improving on their security systems.
When the devil is at work, technology can't stop him. The killings, death and epidemics all over the world can't be stopped but can only be reduced for a while. When you live under God's presevation, thousands will die on your left and ten thousands on your right hand but it shall not come nigh you.
