YOUR COMPANY MATTERS

Acts4:23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them(KJV).

During my time on campus, I shared a living space with an individual who frequently engaged in the activity of clubbing alongside his companions. At the onset of each new academic term, this person exhibited extravagant and careless behaviour. When he possessed ample funds, he often displayed conceited and haughty tendencies. However, I observed that his demeanor shifted towards one of modesty whenever he found himself experiencing financial hardship. Sometime, this individual would even approach me humbly to request basic sustenance such as noodles.

On a certain day, I decided to question why his friends in club couldn't help him in seasons of hunger. He told me that even in severe hunger, his friends won't buy him a meal except alcohol. The cost of a bottle of beer could buy him a meal but his friends won't. They don't mind buying him bottles of beer but they never bought him a meal. Bad company!

In chapter three of Acts, Peter and John healed the man that was lame from birth. That led to a stiff opposition from the religious leaders of their day.

They faced the council of religious lords because the miracle they performed by the power of the Spirit made news. Also, many people converted to the Christian faith from Judaism. They decided to call Peter and John to order but they refused to heed their threat.

When they left, we were told that Peter and John went to their "own company". The word "company" in the opening text could mean colleagues, friends or associates.

Consider this, after facing a panel of big wigs in the Mosaic law, If they had returned home, their faith may shake but they knew the right place to go, they went to people of like minds who could fire up their faith for world evangelization.

It is probable that some of the brethren in their company told them not to worry about the threats of religious leaders. That encouragement was enough to fire them on.

We were told that after they reported all that happened to their company, they all prayed together and the place was shaken, Acts4:31.

In your down moments, do you have a company of people whose words can lift you? Who are the men in your company? Are they vision killers or vision boosters? Do you have friends that can challenge you to pray and be better spiritually?

Your company is a determinant of what will accompany you. It is not good If men in your company cannot give you wise counsel.

Stop surrounding yourself with 'Yes' men. Feel free to evict those that do not believe in your vision from your company because they will always demotivate you and they may kill your vision in the long run.

In your company, include vision boosters, men that can stir you to wholesome thinking and fervent prayers so you can get back on your feet when you run to them in your down moments.

Action point

You must be selective to be productive. The power to decide those that will be in your company is in your hands.
