BLESS YOUR FOOD BEFORE EATING

1 Tim4:4 "Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks. For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer"( NLT)

Recently, I had more insight about why we need to bless our meals before eating them. While growing up, I thought blessing our meals was a christian ritual without significance but now I know better.

In my pursuit of knowledge and self development, I sat under an African Traditional Religion scholar who in pursuit of his Ph.D conducted a research on 'Traditional medicine and Magic among Farmers' in one of the towns in South west, Nigeria.

In his research, he visited a community where farmers use demon spirits to cultivate large expanse of land. Without mechanized farming or human workers on their farms, their farm yield is bountiful. The ordinary eyes can't see farm workers yet plants are growing and weeds are cleared. This is no fiction, it is real.

In a bid to know the secret behind their unusual stride in farming, he met with the head of all traditionalist in that town. He was told to sit on a mortar as he made incantations and shared secrets with him from 1am midnight to 4am in the morning.

One thing that struck me was that farmers engaged in this act do not eat the produce from their farms neither their families as well. If they do, death is the result. They sell all their farm produce to markets in distant lands where they have no families.

You can't convince me that consuming such foods will be without effect on peoples lives. Satan can't cultivate farms without poisoning it. He is wicked and gives nothing good freely. The spiritual controls the physical and there are deep mysteries about the operations in the spirit realm we may not understand.

The psalmist says, "Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty"( Psalm 74:20).

Do you know the farming method or style that was used to cultivate that food you're about to eat? I haven't said you should conduct deliverance service on meals. What i'm advocating for is that you do what we read about in the bible- bless your meals. That's all.

Under the old covenant, temple articles were sanctified: *"We have prepared and consecrated all the articles that King Ahaz removed in his unfaithfulness while he was king. They are now in front of the LORD’s altar"( 2 Chronicles 29:19).

If those under that covenant were smart enough to consecrate ordinary articles, why shouldn't we sanctify the food that goes into our body system?

I once watched a t.v.documentary on how electronics made in Japan were dedicated in a shrine before they are sold into the market. Can you imagine that?

Don't be too woke or naive about issues such as this. In the opening text, Apostle Paul, made it clear that we can make our food acceptable by the word and prayer. In essence, when we don't bless our foods with the word and prayer, it won't be accepted.

In Acts 27:35, Paul blessed bread before eating: "Then he took some bread, gave thanks to God before them all, and broke off a piece and ate it". He could as well eat it without blessing it but he knew the significance of blessing meals.

Since you and I do not know the source of the food we buy in the market, it is not too much to sanctify it with the word and prayer to make it acceptable.

Action point

A simple prayer before your meals isn't a bad idea. It won't cost you a dime.
