One of my uncles had an experience that was a big lesson for me. As I was told, when he was job hunting, he approached an influential man in our hometown who promised him a job. He had an assurance that the man will get him a job because of his influence. Not long after, he got the news about the man's demise.

When I was job hunting as well, I had a similar experience. The federal agency where I applied was highly competitive. I was told that i'll be employed only If I can get a letter from my senator.

I got in touch with someone in Abuja who helped me with a letter from my senator. It was original and authentic. The senator representing my senatorial district signed it and I was so confident I will get the job. I trusted in a letter, mere paper, more than I trusted in God. Alas! I did not get the job.

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come" (Jeremiah 17:5-6).

I have trusted man before and what I got was a disgraceful disappointment. I learnt my lesson the hard way. The bible has always warned against putting our hopes in humans that are here today and may be gone tomorrow. No human is worth trusting even If he is the president of your nation.

Psalm 146:3 says, "Do not put your trust in princes,Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help".

Trusting in man is the underestimation of God and overestimation of man. It robs God of the glory that is due him.

We know God uses men to do certain things and make some good things happen to us. However, that doesn't make man superior to God. Man is only a means, God remains the source.

From today, I want you to put man where man belongs- a means and put God where he belongs, the source of all good things.
