WHEN HIS SILENCE IS MISCONSTRUED

Ecclesiastes8:11 *When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong* (NLT).

There's a popular mantra that says, "silence means consent". While it may be true in some cases but it is not always true when God chooses to remain silent over the sinful acts of men.
Solomon is a good case study. In 1Kings3:1, it was said of him that: "Solomon made an alliance with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and married one of his daughters. He brought her to live in the City of David until he could finish building his palace and the Temple of the Lord and the wall around the city"( NLT).

He made an alliance with an idolatrous king and married one of his daughters in violation of God's laid down principle for marriage. In chapter 11:1-2, it was said that: "Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods”.

Let's look at the outcome in verse 3-5: "Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord. In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the Lord his God, as his father, David, had been. Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites".

There was a wide gap between 1Kings 3 and chapter 11. So many notable and divine events took place. After his marriage to a strange woman, he asked for wisdom and God gave it to him, he built the temple and brought the ark into the temple, built a palace and had a divine encounter in his dream.

What surprised me was that while he was doing all these exploits for the Lord, he was marrying strange women and having concubines( as against God's will) yet God was silent.

In chapter 9, I thought God will point out this sin specifically but God spoke to him on other issues. He may have thought that the silence of God meant consent or approval but he was wrong. The outcome was disastrous, vs 3-5.

There are instructions God may not repeat twice. The moment He sends warning a couple of times without seeing repentance,  He may not repeat it again.

A man may be living in sin yet doing exploits for the Lord. The deceit of seeing miraculous manifestations while living in sin is the reason some believers trivialize sin.

I heard about a polygamous alnd adulterous prophet who told some persons that If God was angry with His polygamy, why would he still be operating in accurate prophetic gifts? The operations of gifts deceived him to thinking that God was in support of his polygamous lifestyle.

Dearest, before God becomes silent, it is consistent with  His nature to send prior warning. When warning is not heeded, He may become silent. However, His silence doesn't mean consent.

Action Point:

Father search my heart to see if there be any evil way. Do not be silent over my life. Point my failings to me and help me by the power of your Spirit to amend my ways in Jesus name.
