SNUFF OUT THE TICKING TIME BOMB Pt.3
2 Sam12:10 From this time on, your family will live by the sword because you have despised me by taking Uriah’s wife to be your own.
THE THIRD LEG OF DAVID
I love king David. Anytime I read about him, I see a man raised by God's mercies and endowed with gifts. Can we talk about great men in our Kingdom without mentioning his name?
However, there is an aspect of king David's story that is not commonly preached. It is common to hear about his conquests over Goliath and other enemies. Most times, we preach about the sure mercies of David and how he was a man after God's heart. All of these are in order and they're worth telling.
However, there is another aspect of his life that put his family and unborn generation in trouble. He carried in him the ticking time bomb of sexual immorality. It found expression in him and it led to the murder of Uriah.
Often, we are quick to rebuke Solomon for marrying 700 wives and having 300 concubines(1Kings11:3) but he learnt it from David his father and he took it to the next level. Yes, what manifested in small measure in David's life gained full expression in gargantuan proportion in Solomon's life.
At the time of Absalom's rebellion, it was recorded that David had 10 concubines (2Sam15:16) and in his conquests, he married more wives(2Sam3:2-5). As people were hailing him, he was marrying more wives.
Satan saw his weakness for women. He waited for an opportuned time to strike. He set up a day and a time for him when he would behold a beauty called Bathsheba. It happened as planned. He fell into adultery (2 Sam11).
The singular action of committing adultery made him to progress into murder and eventually, he attracted the curse of God upon his life and his family.
When he was about to die, those around him already knew that being around women revives him so they brought Abishag to revive him(1Kings1&2). That was how bad it was in the life of David. Thank God he had learnt his lessons,he didn't touch her.
A man can be anointed for conquest and territorial dominion yet, what would eventually rubbish him may be growing with him unnoticed. We have numerous examples to draw from. The scripture is a book of examples.
1 Corinthians 10:11-13 says, "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!"( NIV)
We need to be sincere with ourselves as we walk with God. We must get rid of those little foxes that spoil the vine.
Father, take me to your theatre room and operate upon my heart. Remove those destructive seeds i'm nurturing In Jesus name.
