DO NOT BE A VESSEL OF TEMPTATION

Luke 17:1 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting! NLT

My pastor told us about an evangelist back in the days. This evangelist saw a lady dressed immodestly while walking. He looked on not knowing an electric pole was in his front, he was carried away. After hitting his head on the pole, he came back to his senses. It is hilarious but true. The flames of lust was fanned in the heart of that man because of what he saw. In the opening text, Jesus made it clear that there will always be temptations to sin. In this depraved world, we cannot put an end to temptation but we can run from it. We can guard our hearts against falling into temptation and run from all appearance of evil. In matters such as described above, all we need is to exercise self control. You don't need to be lost in lust while looking around carelessly.

That said, I'll like to address the issue of the tempter. There are times some believers surrender themselves to the devil to be used as agents of temptation. Years back, I belonged to a gathering of believers where indecent dressing was the norm from the pulpit to the pew. There were days we got to the fellowship seeing cleavages of those ministering on the altar and turning right and left, no one looked different among the sisters. One of the brothers through whom I attended the fellowship told me he stirred at a lady's butt throughout one of the fellowship meetings. He promised to tell her how much he admired what he saw whenever they meet. I called myself to order and I left that fellowship. I was there to serve God but my mind wandered often because of what I saw. In verse two of the opening text, talking about the tempter, Jesus said, "It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin."

As a believer, do not be a stumbling block to another person. The way you hang around that sister, hug and call her pet names may be doing more damage than good. How you dress matter a lot. Don't tell me it doesn't matter neither should you say "I don't care what people think or say about me." There's something the bible call the attire of an harlot( Prov7:10). The moment a princess put it on, what everyone begins to see is an harlot even though she's a princess. One of the reasons why some ladies attract irresponsible guys is because of their dressing even though they're responsible. Stop dressing to slay, you're not a slayer as a child of God. You're meant to be a builder. Brothers are not exempted in this. Don't let the people around you mistake you for the mad man at Gadarene. One of the things the bible said him after legions of demons left him was: "When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, DRESSED AND IN HIS RIGHT MIND; and they were afraid."( Mk5:15). Your indecent dressing is affecting someone negatively and may push them to hell. Always remember that there's a "woe" on anyone who makes others fall. Jesus Himself declared it: "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, BUT WOE TO THE PERSON THROUGH WHOM THEY COME!". Mt18:7.
