PLEASING GOD IN A FADING WORLD

Sister Judith applied for a number of jobs after school. She wrote several aptitude tests to get her dream job but one of those interviews looked more like she was closer to achieving her dreams. When she got to the panel, the head of the panel was impressed with her résumé and performance in the written interview. The panel examined her credentials and discussed with her about the prospect of landing a job in their coy. Total monthly income was $2000. To her, it looked like an answer to prayer after waiting for eight years doing petty jobs and receiving meagre salary. Days after the interview just before she was told to pick up her appointment letter, the executive director of the company called her on phone asking for a date with her in one of the big hotels in town. The man told her point blank that picking up her appointment letter was dependent on her acceding to his request. She thought about how she had suffered while waiting to get a dream job but the Spirit of God asked her this simple question: "Will you please God and reign with Him eternally or please man and lose your soul"? She got the message and declined the offer.

Now we know the world is driven by principles and systems that are anti God. The triune forces of lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life rules the world. Apostle John further told us the world is fading already. Right from after the fall of man, the world has entered into a fading mode that is why trends don't last. The fashions and designs of this world are always changing from time to time. Even the physical heaven and earth will fade away. At the end of time, God will melt the elements of heaven and this world with fervent heat because this world wasn't created to last forever: "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare", 2Pet 3:10.

The words of Jesus confirms this truism: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away"( Matthew24:35). Why crave for something that will fade away as though it is eternal? Apostle John made it clear that only those that please God will live forever. Living forever after doing the will of God connotes reigning with Christ. Our primary pursuit should be to please God in all we do. We haven't said that we won't need the things of this world for our daily sustenance but when they become our prime pursuit and we become desperate about them in a manner that is anti God, then we have been taken over by the spirit that runs the world. Every waking moment, our prayer and desire should be "father, help me to live a life that is pleasing to you in this fading world." God honours such request highly. Set your heart on pleasing your heavenly father in this fading world and He will reward you with a royal welcome in His eternal rest.
