1 Pet 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. NLT
OVERRATING THE ENEMY
I heard the story of a brother who invited another brother to come pray for him because he felt he was under attack seeing frogs around his house. The brother that was invited got to his house having received the invitation to come for deliverance prayers. When he got there, the brother who claimed he was under attack narrated to him his experience about the invasion of frogs. Before this brother prayed, he walked around the house just to check the surroundings. He found a pond that bred frogs and he told his friend that the frog attack was not spiritual but because of the pond. Now, that describes how so many believers are demon conscious even when the fault is all theirs or something they can fix with the application of common sense.
When you overrate the enemy, you will live in constant fear. Fear in itself is of the devil and not of God. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."(2Tim1:7). There are believers whose surroundings are not clean but when they see cockroaches, they'll scream "blood of Jesus" thinking a demon has visited. Such folks have an overrated view of the enemy. Those who operate that way rarely think straight neither do they have clear minds on issues because they are enemy conscious. I have seen believers who live in the consciousness of demons and enemy. Hardly will they pray without mentioning something about the enemy that is after them. The worst that happens when believers overrate the enemy is when they begin to ascribe mightiness to Satan above God. Here in Africa, some still believe you should pay homage to demons where necessary and perform rites when demanded. Such persons have not divorced from superstitions and certain traditional beliefs for fear of repercussions. That's why some pregnant woman attach pin to the edge of their gowns to prevent giving birth to a demonic child.
Until you know who you are in Christ and what He did to Satan during his death, burial and resurrection, you'll never be free from fear of the enemy. This is what Ephesians2:6 has to say about us as believers: "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,". Hallelujah!!! Your position in Christ is far above where demons, curses, household witches, wizards can reach. Further, in Colossians 3:3, Paul said, "For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.". You need not run from your village because of that witch. Your life is hidden with Christ IN GOD. Hallelujah!!! Anyone after your life must get Jesus first and then get God before getting you. That's the implication. The devil is a defeated foe; in Colossians 2:15, it was said that: "Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.". After resurrection, in Matthew 28:18, Jesus Himself said, "...All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." Stop making Satan and His cohorts your subject of prayers at all times, the attention you're giving Him is unnecessary. He likes it. Just put him where he belongs using the name of Jesus Christ and never stop looking unto Him. That's how to fight and win in this warfare.
CONFESSION: I am born of God. I overcome the world. I am washed by the blood and redeemed to reign and rule over the enemy. I refuse to bow in shame and fear if the enemy. I rise as a son to take my place in redemption in the name of Jesus Christ.
