CAPACITY-BUILDING THROUGH LEARNING Pt.1

Proverbs 19:2 It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.

In Russia, a plane crash report dated September 11,2001 confirmed that overloading caused Il-76 fatal accident. The plane carried beyond its capacity and that led to a crash that killed all crew members on those onboard. In 7 of the world’s deadliest shipwrecks, Michael Ray told the story of the deadliest maritime disaster in U.S history. On April 27, 1865, the SS Sultana exploded on the Mississippi River just north of Memphis, Tennessee. This ship carried as many as 2,300 people—more than six times the vessel’s rated capacity. Ideally, the ship was designed for a capacity of less than 400 persons at most but on that fateful day, the ship carried beyond capacity. About 1800 persons were killed in the disaster. The two disasters have one thing in common. The vessels had accident because they carried what was beyond their capacity.

Every human being have a carrying capacity for destiny. The good thing about the capacity of humans is that it can be built and expanded to carry greater weight conveniently. I'm not talking about physical capacity here. My focus is on leadership, spiritual, emotional and mental capacity. Those in the corporate world understand this that's why corporations organize capacity-building programs for their staff. In the assignment God has given to us, we can increase our capacity for more through learning. Zeal is not always enough. Results can be deceptive at times. A minister can be called of God genuinely with special grace and unique power yet he may not be operating at God's best for his life and ministry. The average believer or minister would think about building capacity in terms of fasting&prayer at the exclusion of learning. What I've discovered over time in this part of the world is that we can fast&pray but little attention is paid to acquisition of knowledge through learning.

Some prefer going to the mountain to pray on issues that require learning. Prayer is no substitute for learning and vice versa. Every man will operate only at the level of his capacity. The greatness and growth you crave in life and ministry will never be beyond your carrying or holding capacity. The same applies to business and other endeavours in life. If God brings increase beyond what you can carry, a crash is inevitable. Why some pastors will keep pastoring the type and number of people they pastor is not because of prayerlessnes but capacity. Most times, your clients in business is reflective of your capacity. In life, we attract our kind. The beauty of life is that you can always increase your capacity for whatever height you desire. It is your responsibility not God's. More so, you have to be intentional about it. Look at that area of your life that is important to you, make a decision to build bigger capacity for quality exploits.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to build capacity for my purpose in life in Jesus name.
