DEAL WITH FALSE GUILT

April 28, 2023 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

1John1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

What is false guilt? This is the guilt that comes or remains after you've repented of your sins. Remaining in perpetual guilt is demonic.

One of the tools the enemy uses to dampen our faith, prayer life and to make us feel unloved by God is false guilt. In itself, guilt is not bad if it leads us to genuine repentance.

Sometimes, conviction comes with guilt but what the Holy Spirit does is to point us to the solution. However, there is a type of guilt that is destructive and mind wrecking.

Those days on campus, some medical students told me that a psychiatric patient spoke in tongues while another had mental issues because of guilt related feelings. It baffled some of them how a Christian can be in a mental home. Some are there because of false guilt.

One of the reasons guilt feelings remain after repentance is because victims hardly believe that their sins are forgiven*. Yes! that's a major factor.

In other religion of the world, it takes doing a lot to be forgiven but here in Christianity, we receive forgiveness by faith because someone paid the price. Hallelujah!!!

If you are having problems with reoccurring guilt, it shows that you didn't believe in the forgiving power of God through Christ.

I have heard those who recommend fasting as a condition to be forgiven. As good as fasting is, it is not a criteria to be forgiven, faith in the finished work of Christ is.

When God forgives, he forget and he doesn't keep records of your failures: "And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins”( Hebrews 8:12 NLT).

If you can believe what the bible says about God's forgiveness, you will overcome false guilt.

Let me say that we all feel guilty sometimes, but our feelings may not be right at all times. How we feel only points to our belief system. A faulty belief system about God's forgiveness will keep you in perpetual guilt.

Dare to believe what God says in his word not how you feel. If you submit to feelings, you will always feel inadequate and unworthy of God. Demons use false guilt to talk and control people, don't listen.

Action point

Father thank you because you love me. I take authority over the demon of false guilt troubling my heart in Jesus name.
