Colossians 4:17 And say to Archippus, “Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.” NLT
FOCUS ON YOUR MINISTRY
Recently, my eyes opened to certain things about ministry and the tactics the enemy is using to derail ministers from their assignment.
From time immemorial, the popular bait of the enemy has always been money, women and power. Virtually everyone in ministry has been warned about these at one time or the other.
Till date, the enemy is still using these old baits to catch men in ministry and to bring them down. However, I discover another subtle evil he uses to weaken ministers before making them fall. That tool is lack of focus.
If the enemy can divert your attention from your ministry( assignment), you may lose your ministry while still wearing the collar.
Your ministry is that specific assignment God gave you. It is your originality.
Some are wearing the collar but they have lost their rightful place on the altar. They have the title but have lost their mantle because their focus is on something else except their ministry.
Lack of focus on the assignment can make a minister abandon his calling and start fighting for a place in forbes list. Lack of focus can make a man abandon fulfilment in ministry for fame and fortunes.
Such a person may turn the message of Christian growth and discipleship to business growth because it is the reigning message on cold pulpits without holy fire because It spins money.
His assignment could be in the village but due to pressure for fame and fortunes, the minister who has lost focus will re direct his path to the city.
The minister who has lost focus will run after title and abandon his assignment. Seeks ordination for an office he hasn't been called to occupy. Are you occupying your rightful office?
Have you wondered why we are having so many self-imposed apostles and prophets today but few evangelists? Lack of focus is the reason.
Some that are called into the evangelistic ministry are seeking to operate in the prophetic instead of combing villages, towns and cities in search for the lost.
The enemy will divert their attention from souls to start seeking how to say "thus saith the Lord" when the Lord hasn't said anything. Can't you see the multiplication of fake prophets everywhere?
The worst is when such persons decide to open a church thinking they'll finance their outreach ministry from the church purse. Some prefer a ministry where they can pass the offering bowl around.
Church ministry is a big distraction to any minister that hasn't been called to start one.
When the focus of a minister is on achieving human metrics for measuring sucess, he will find himself chasing after shadows and living a competitive life. His glory will be in superlative expressions like "biggest", "largest" but real impact will be lost.
Paul saw these long ago that was why he counseled Archippus to focus on his ministry. Today, the counsel to Archippus in Colossians 4:17 is still relevant to you and me: "And say to (...insert your name), “Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.”
Father, I receive the grace to focus on my ministry in Jesus name.
