START THE YEAR ON THE RIGHT FOOT Pt.2
1 John 1:3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.
REGULAR FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD.
Those days when we were in children department in the church, there was a song we sang those days which says: "Read your bible pray every day if you want to grow". Then it was a sweet song sung in our children classes but we didn't take the lessons to heart. Then, they were teaching us the basics of daily fellowship with God. The synonym of the word fellowship is communion. It is from the Greek word "Koinonia". It denotes participatory intimacy. For example, the kind of relationship that exist between a husband and wife that are in love with each other is a type of fellowship. When you see some couples after years of marriage, they resemble each other. I know you've seen this before. The wife can predict her husband to a certain extent in certain circumstances and situations and vice versa. That's the proof of fellowship.
You must make it your goal to fellowship with God in the place of prayer and the word on daily basis. The secret of becoming like Jesus lies in fellowshipping with the Spirit of Jesus daily via prayer and the word of God. Just as husbands and wives in a loving relationship fellowship with each other to the point of resemblance, same is expected of us as God's children. In 2Cor 13:14, Apostle Paul knowing the spiritual benefit of fellowship prayed thus: "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all".
Another vital aspect of fellowship that is lost today is solitude. We live in a busy world that is full of noise. Our minds are busy because we've not been able to still the cacophony of voices in our minds through external influence. Staying in a noiseless environment where your spirit man can focus on God is a vital element of fellowship. That way, God will be able to speak to you. To start your year on the right foot, you must make up your mind to go deeper with God through regular fellowship with Him in the word and prayer. The years of spiritual laxity are gone. Start revived and stay revived. Your desire to be spiritual will remain a farce if you don't take this vital step. You have to be intentional about spending quality time with God in the place of prayer and the word. You don't need to put yourself under undue pressure. A chapter daily and 30 minutes in prayer especially praying in the Holy Ghost is a good way to start. Gradually, your capacity for more will increase.
Father, take me deeper in you this year in Jesus name.
