START THE YEAR ON THE RIGHT FOOT Pt.23
Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children. NIV
INVEST IN KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION
Christopher Columbus was a voyager in his days. He went on several voyages with his team. History has it that on a particular voyage, they ran out of food and had nothing to eat. While on the sea, they sighted an Island and they decided to berth their ship to source for food on the Island. They begged the people for food but they refused to give them food. All entreaties failed and they felt hopeless. Columbus remembered that he read in a book about eclipse of the sun that will happen. On the strength of that information, he told those on the Island that he will cause darkness to cover the land if they don't give him food. They refused. After some days, darkness covered everywhere and they were afraid. They rushed to Columbus with food begging him to accept their peace offering. Probably they thought he was a god. Knowledge acquired through study put food on Columbus table.
You cannot grow in life beyond your private study. There is power in reading and acquiring relevant information. The world has become a world of readers and research. When you devote yourself to personal development through study, you make yourself an asset. You become resourceful. Often, our problem is not resources but resourcefulness. Most developed countries in the world today run on what I call knowledge economy. Japan doesn't have resources like most African states do yet they have a stronger economy than most African states. The key is knowledge. It is as though the continent with resources is plundered by those with knowledge.
This year, don't joke with knowledge acquisition. Whatever it will take you to develop yourself and be on top of your game wouldn't be bad as long as it is legal. In your profession, business and trade, don't be stagnant. Acquire knowledge. If you're a preacher, don't say "the only book I read is bible and nothing more". Some preachers are stale. They tell more of stories and expound less of scriptures that's why their members aren't growing or leaving the church for a better place. The way some preachers handle scriptures shows they need thorough bible training. Many biblical illiterates are on the pulpits today feeding souls with junks. Don't be irked when you're confronted with your ignorance, go get knowledge. Only humble people learn. Study so that you won't be stupid. This is the year to learn, unlearn and relearn. Buy books and read them. Don't have a library decorated with books. Let it be functional. Attend relevant seminars and trainings. Don't be stagnant in knowledge.
Discern areas of your life where you're deficient in knowledge and invest in upgrading yourself.
