POSTURES FOR DIVINE DIRECTION Pt.1

Deut 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

HEART POSTURE( A)

According to definition of words from Oxford languages, posture can be defined as the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting. Also, it refers to a particular approach or attitude. The later is relevant to our discussion. Many believers wonder why they don't hear from God, some are perplexed about their inability to receive a clear direction from God on issues they need clarity on despite spending time in prayer and fasting. What many fail to realize is that there are postures suitable for receiving clearly from God. In the physical, the posture for receiving an object or item is almost the same all over the world. It involves stretching of hands and opening of palms. There's also an acceptable posture for receiving clear direction from God.

To receive clear directions from God on issues, the first posture of your heart must align with the fear of the Lord. In Psalms 25:14, the bible says, "The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant". What does it mean to fear the Lord? It simply means to reverence God. Some persons say a believer shouldn't fear the Lord because fear is of the devil. They insinuated that the phrase "fear of the Lord" is an old testament idea because the new testament command is to love the Lord. I think this is a case of misinterpretation of scriptural words. The type of fear implied in context of the scripture cited is not the destructive fear that is demon inspired. Rather, it is a reverential fear. More so, apostle Paul, a new testament teacher, recommended that we perfect holiness in the fear of God: "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, PERFECTING HOLINESS IN THE FEAR OF GOD", 2Cor 7:1. That's a new testament scripture for you not old testament.

Those who don't reverence God cannot hear from God clearly. The fear of the Lord is expressed through proper Christian conduct and right living. There are those who live the way they want, they gratify the desires of the flesh yet they want to hear from the Spirit. It is impossible. You have to live in the Spirit to hear from the Spirit. There are no two ways about it. You cannot be sold out to the flesh and expect attract a spiritual benefit such as divine direction. God reveals His secrets to sons that are in fellowship with Him not to those that run to Him only when they need Him. When the fear of God is constant in a man's life, divine direction flow unhindered. Everything in the kingdom has its place. Prayer has its place, fasting does as well. However, when you neglect one at the expense of the other, you may not get the desired result. No matter how long you spend on the mountain fasting and prayer, if the fear of the Lord is not a constant, it is either you receive demonic direction or you lead yourself as prompted by the flesh.
