POSTURES FOR DIVINE DIRECTION Pt.4

Psalns62:11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

EAR POSTURE

Before my service year, I prayed extensively to know God's will for my life and ministry. Towards the end of my 100 level till I finished the university, that was topmost on my prayer requests. Though I sensed I'll be in ministry but certain details weren't clear to me. I had solid career plans that I wanted to pursue alongside ministry but I knew banking job was out of it because I wanted a job that will give me time for ministry and kingdom service. I don't want to be a sunday Christian. On one of the days during NYSC, myself and the fellowship Secretary entered the bank to transact for the fellowship. As we entered that banking hall, I thought within that banking job wouldn't be bad idea after NYSC. That day, the banking hall was scanty so I assumed banking job wasn't as stressful like those I see in Lagos where people troop in en masse and the few workers are worn out. Note that this thought was within, i didn't verbalize it. As I got to the counter, after a short while, the man at the counter looked at me and said, "After your NYSC, don't bother working in the bank, go and face your ministry". Wow! He spoke prophetically. I knew God spoke through him that day. Quietly, I stepped out of the bank after we finished our transaction.

Sometimes, our challenge in hearing or receiving from God is not because God is not speaking but our inability to pick His voice or catch divine signals from heaven. Lack of sensitivity to divine direction is a huge limitation in hearing God's voice. I heard the story of a brother whom the Lord spoke to through a mad man at the bus stop that he should obey the call into ministry. You may wonder why God will go to the extent of speaking through a mad man. Don't forget that the same God spoke through Balaam's donkey. If He could speak through an animal, how much more a human being that is mentally unstable. However, one would wonder why God would go to the extent of speaking through a mad man. It is not in His habit to bypass men and women in need of direction but sometimes, when His children are dull to hearing, insensitive or disobedient, He may adopt a method of communication that will pass home the message clearly. You don't need to get to that level where God will seek an "unusual" means to get your attention if your ear posture is right.

The posture of your inner ears should be that of a man whose ears are placed on the chest of God to know His heart/ mind per time. It is a state of spiritual sensitivity. The moment your sensitivity to God's leading is dull, even if God uses a loud speaker to speak, it may be hard for you to hear Him. Jacob had a visitation in a vision yet he didn't take advantage of that rare privilege because he was not sensitive. When he woke up, he said: "... Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”, Gen26:16. That's not a good testimony. As you put your heart and mouth in the right posture, your ears must also align properly in the posture of sensitivity to pick spiritual signals.
