2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, NKJV
I once read a book where the writer insinuated that there are things that are not written in the scriptures that we can do. For me, thats a very dangerous path to tread because if we begin to engage in extrabiblical practices based on 'thus saith the Lord', we would veer off into error and betray God's word. One challenge that is increasing today is the challenge of remaining faithful to the revealed truth in the written word of God especially in our church practices.
God in His wisdom decided to give us the bible as a safe guide for all our practices. In fact, if anyone claims that he heard from God concerning a matter and he cannot prove it convincingly from the bible especially the new testament, it is wise to discard such practice. I was discussing with someone about an unbiblical practice that a church adopted, i proved it to him from the bible that it was totally out of order. He said, "that is God's instruction to the leader of the church and it is working for them". That something is working or producing result doesn't validate it.
Scriptures should validate a practice and not the other way round. Don't forget that the devil can produce proofs and results. Yes, have you forgotten that the rod of the Egyptian magicians turned to snake in the order of Moses'? That shouldn't surprise you because satan can counterfeit almost all the things God does. There are counterfeit miracles today that aren't from God. You don't say, "that Pastor is healing people and performing miracles then it must be God and nothing else". Dearest, it could be something else aside God. The product of a genuine walk with God is not result but brokenness and sensitivity.
Father, i receive grace to stay faithful to the revealed truth in your word In Jesus name.
