LOVING LIKE GOD Pt.8

September 05, 2026 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

1 Corinthians 13:5 *"...it keeps no record of wrongs*"( NIV).

*LOVE KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS*

I read about a pastor who counseled a couple who fought every week. He gave them a whiteboard for their kitchen and said: “Write every offense here.” Weekly, the board was full of accusations ranging from failure to empty the bin.

On the third week, the wife got tired. She took an eraser and wiped the whole board and said, “Let’s start fresh.” That night they talked for the first time in months. No accusations. Just, “How can we do better?”

Their pastor said: “That’s love. Not pretending it didn’t happen. But choosing not to keep it on display. Wipe the board.”

The truth about living on earth is that we'll be offended by people we relate with either at home, office, in our neighbourhood and church. It is surprising that some of us have our whiteboard full because of offenses. We keep a mental record of what someone did or said that hurt us hoping to use it against them later.

Some even keep a physical diary of wrongs. They put the date and describe how the person offended them. Some couples are ruining the love in their marriage through constant reminders of what their spouse did wrong in years past. You kill love in your marriage If tell your spouse, "that is what you normally do".

When we start loving like God, we won't keep records of wrongs. Micah 7:19 says, *“He will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea*".

*God doesn’t have a file on you. He dealt with it at the cross and threw away the file. If God’s love in us is real, it will forgive like He forgives*.

The more you keep records of wrong, the more it poisons your heart. It will make you live in constant bitterness. Love chooses to release, because holding on hurts you more than it hurts them.

To avoid being trapped, forgive quickly (Eph 4:26), address the issue with the person who offend you, forgive, don’t bring it up 6 months later. Always pray for the person who hurt you.

*It is hard to keep a record on someone you’re praying blessings over*.
