Hebrews 5:12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! NIV
DEDICATION TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Sometimes ago, a woman brought her son to me for prayers. The boy ought to have been walking but was still crawling. The mother was bothered about his condition. After praying for the boy, I told her that he'll walk. Months after that prayer, she sent me a message that her son has started walking. That's the joy of every mother, to see steady growth in their children. Mothers become bothered about children that eat and do not grow. Some mothers would visit the hospital to consult the doctor on why their child isn't growing. It is painful to keep feeding a child without a marked growth. It betrays the expectation of every mother.
Same applies to every pastor or minister that God has placed over you. One of our expectations is that you grow spiritually. My expectation is that all readers of this devotional attain unto maturity in Christ. That's why I never cease to teach on daily basis. If you eat spiritual food and do not grow spiritually, you'll be breaking the heart of your pastor or whoever minister to you constantly. The writer of Hebrew express such concern in the opening text. Just as milk is for babies and solid food is for the mature, his expectation was that the believers under his care would grow up spiritually to the point where they'll start eating solid (spiritual) meat and teaching others.
Carnality is one of the tell tale signs that shows you're not growing spiritually: "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ", 1 Cor 3:1-2 KJV. Further, in verse 3, Paul told us the traits of carnality: "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?". When the works of the flesh is still pleasurable to you, you're carnal and haven't grown spiritually. The way out of this is to take heed to the word of God and the teachings you've heard from your pastor. Make conscious effort to practice what your pastor is teaching you and pray for grace to abide.
Father,I receive the grace to be dedicated to spiritual growth in Jesus name.
