James1:23-24 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like( NLT)
I hardly use the mirror but my wife does almost all the time. I noticed that most ladies have a small mirror in their bags for outdoor use.
Often, they use the big mirror at home before going out and will still use the small mirror before entering the venue for an occasion. This is very common to the women folk. God bless our sisters. They do this to be sure their outlook is intact especially their facial make-up.
Some will laugh and be sure their expression in laughter is fine. Whatever isn't in order in their make up will be adjusted as they look at the mirror. This is how far people go with facial looks and beauty.
The word of God can be likened to a mirror. It has the power and potential to reveal to us who we are and how we look spiritually. Just as most of our sisters won't step out without looking into the mirror, we should not neglect this all important mirror daily.
It shows to us our clear imagery. If you want to see yourself the way you are, get a bible and start studying it daily. The word of God has an all-round application to all facets of our lives. You can assess your marriage, career, business, academics and ministry from the mirror of the word.
Some persons do not have time for the word, this neglect is the reason why we have many baby Christians today. They go to church every Sunday and are actively involved in church activities but do not have time for personal study of the word and prayer.
From observation, people in that category are often tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. It is not enough to look into the mirror, after seeing yourself the way you are, make adjustment.
Whenever you study the word, always ask yourself, 'is there any command/ injunction to obey'? If you study a portion of scriptures and you see certain things that aren't right with your life, simply adjust.
Studying God's word makes no sense until it transforms us. The transformation comes as we obey what is written in the word. Don't study the bible religiously or to mark reading attendance. Obey what is written therein and experience transformation.
Father, I receive the grace to look into the mirror of God's word daily and to make adjustment where necessary in Jesus name.
