Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. NLT

IF YOU'RE FORCING IT TO WORK

I'll be using pseudonyms for my illustration.

Brother John and sister Jane were in a relationship. Sister Jane and bro John had serious misunderstanding severally during courtship.

Oftentimes, Sister Jane made the first move for reconciliation because she wanted their relationship to work.

That's not bad but bro John had a love-killing attitude. He was always 'right' and loved to receive/hear "sorry" which sister Jane did always just to make things work.

He had nasty attitudes that could have brought an end to that relationship but sister Jane kept forcing the continuity of that relationship.

Sometimes, bro John could be incommunicado for weeks yet sister Jane would seek bro John's welfare yet he didn't care about how she felt.

She was in the relationship more than bro John. She sacrificed so much because she wanted her relationship to end in marriage.

She did most of the calling, texting and inititated everything even when it was obvious that bro John lost all affection for her. The love and affection was one-sided in the relationship.

Dear single, is the story of bro. John and sis. Jane like yours? Are you struggling to make that relationship work and managing someone who is not into you?

Are you in a one-sided relationship where there's no mutual love, respect and affection? If yes, you need to run.

If you're forcing it to work it shows that she is not for you and vice versa. You don't beg to be loved by someone you intend spending the rest of your life with. True love flows both ways.

The marriage journey is not a solo journey. It takes two to tango. You can't pour yourself into a union where the other person act as though he/she is doing you a favour.

You can correct this mess now that you're single. A broken courtship is better than a broken marriage. If it doesn't flow both ways and you find yourself always struggling to make things work with your partner, don't just take a walk, run.

Action point

Love, commitment and other key factors that makes relationship work must be mutual. The journey requires the input of two not one.
