RUN FROM STIMULANTS

October 10, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

2 Tim 2:22 Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. NLT

Medically, stimulants are drugs that increase alertness. It is not a strange term to those in the field of medicine. However, my focus is not on drugs but on the stimulants the enemy has poured out into the world system. Sometime ago, I decided to block some stations on our cable t.v.at home. I noticed that the musical videos and whatever they air on those stations are toxic to my spiritual health and to that of my family by extension. One of the most powerful tool of the enemy to stimulate lust and worldliness in people is the media. The devil preach his sermon through the mouth of entertainers and in the process, he stimulate ungodliness and lust in the hearts of men. The easiest way people learn slangs is through movies or musical videos. Isn't it?

Apostle Paul warned Timothy to run from anything that stimulates youthful lust because he wasn't immune to lust despite the fact that he was a Pastor. No matter how spiritual we may become, we should never feed the flesh with the food it craves. We become more spiritual as we feed our spirit and we become more carnal if we feed the flesh. We consciously need to be reminded about our humanity so that we can walk circumspectly in this corrupt world. If that television program, movie or music is not edifying and informative, don't watch it.If you have to change that television station because you don't want your child(ren), spouse or visitor to catch you watching it, then it is not good for you.

Instead of surrounding yourself with lustful stimulants, just pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love and peace as prescribed by Paul. You should have a desire to be better in these things than you were yesterday. Till Christ comes for us, we should never come to that point where we'll stop pursuing the things Paul prescribed to Timothy. Today, we may not be at our best in love, peace, faithfulness and righteous living but as we look up to Jesus daily and stay in fellowship with God through His word and prayer, our transformation is assured. Paul said, "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."( 2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV).

Action point

Father,I receive the grace to do away with stimulants that feed my flesh and makes me unspiritual, insensitive and dull to the things of the Spirit in Jesus name.
