Psalms122: 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. KJV
I was in a devotional meeting with a brother recently. He opened our eyes to certain things most believers often fail to do about their leaders and by extension their country. We argue so much about the political parties, we are quick to point out errors and misdeeds of our leaders. We compare our country with other countries of the world but one thing we often fail to do is to pray for our country. The devil knows the power we wield when we pray and he knows we can change things on our knees but he normally point our attention to things that can't bring about a lasting change.
The Psalmist enjoined that we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. In the text above, Jerusalem is symbolic of our earthly country. The Psalmist didn't say we should pray for the prosperity of Jerusalem. A nation with abundance of resources that lacks peace will surely come to ruins even if it is managed by the best brains. The prosperity of citizens is strongly tied to the peace that exist in that country. How do you think you can achieve your lofty dreams in a war-torn country? When I see people who demand for bloody revolution, I see a bunch of ignoramuses who do not know what a day in battle cost.
In world history, no nation goes to war and get restored quickly. The effect may linger for decades. Brethren, don't sing the song of war neither should you dance to war tunes. Those that see the beginning of war may not live to see the end. Comrades, there's a battle in the spirit realm for the soul of our country. Hell has unleashed blood-sucking demons to let blood and bring tears to the eyes of people. I'm glad to tell you that if we can pray, we can scuttle the plans of the enemy over our nation. You can achieve more on your knees for your nation rather than engaging in unprofitable argument and name calling. Don't let the devil divert your attention. This is the time to pray.
Father, we ask that your peace reign in (...insert name of country), we ask that the manoeuvres and manipulations of the enemy cease and stop right now in Jesus name.
