GOD'S PRESCRIPTIONS FOR NATIONAL HEALING Pt.6

October 29, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

2Chronicles7: 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

ELECTORAL PARTICIPATION (A)

I read a good story on Pastor Poju Oyemade's Facebook timeline. The story illustrates the point I want to make: "In the 60's, in the United States, a group of young men and women under 35years were fed up and wanted a dramatic change in the way things were being done in the polity. They stood up and it ended in the Government having to use force to rein them in. They were disappointed. A mentor of theirs told them you have 3 options, go find a wailing wall and feel sorry for yourselves. Two, go psycho and start acting radically and you lose everything or three, learn a lesson. Go home, organise, build political power and be the delegates at next party convention." Over the years, i noticed that people can either be active in nation building or be reactive to it. Being active is like saying, "I have good intentions for my country and I'll be actively involved in governance to ensure my intentions are fulfilled."

Being reactive is when we sit back, do nothing other than to complain and point accusing fingers. In changing the narrative of any nation, active involvement in electioneering process and politics is key. Protests and agitations cannot bring about a lasting change. The people who decides from the various organs of government determine much more in the nation than social critics. This is the truth all over the world. We have allowed wicked leaders to over run our nation because of our wrong attitude to election and politics. In Proverbs 29:2, the bible says, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." This is a biblical truism.

In a democratic setting, the people determine who their leaders( good or bad) will be. The right to vote and be voted for is the power good people have to change bad leaders. The moment political leaders know that righteous people are willing and ready to vote them out if they do not perform, they'll sit tight. Stop voting people because of party sentiments, tribe or 'political experience or structure'. Owing to this proverbial 'political experience& structure', we ended up recycling bad leaders and sieved out those with good intentions for our nation. How can that political aspirant have 'political experience' if you don't vote him? Let's stop pouring new wine into old wine skin. Those that drove our nation to Egypt cannot lead us to Canaan. To change the narrative, get ready for the polls.

Action point

I receive the grace to play my part in changing the narrative of corruption, bad governance and inept leadership in Jesus name.
