2Chronicles7: 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
HUMILITY AND PRAYER
You may wonder why we use the word "healing" for a nation. The promise of national healing is clearly written in scriptures. Just as the body can be sick, a nation can be sick. The signs and symptoms of a sick nation are: corruption, intra&inter ethnic conflict, abuse of power& office, religious conflict, electoral fraud, deprivation of the masses, poor infrastructures, poor health system, low quality of education, injustice, unrest, insecurity, kidnapping, unemployment, bad leadership, chaos, and other social maladies. There are many sick nations today and you can diagnose yours by checking some of the signs and symptoms listed above. Be sincere, is your nation sick?
In our quest for national healing, God's word has given us certain prescriptions that can bring healing to an ailing nation. Humility and prayer is the first prescription. Humility and prayer must go hand-in- hand. As God's children, we must have a humble heart that sees God as the all-in-all, not our wisdom or expertise. If man can direct his affairs perfectly, the world would be without chaos. We need to acknowledge that there's a God in heaven that rules in the affairs of men. The heart that goes into the place of prayer is as important as the prayers itself. Humility in prayer is a disposition of the heart that draws God's attention.
The devil will always find ways to stop us from praying about the health of our nation because he knows that we wield a great influence in the place of prayer. It is easy to criticize and react to national issues but heaven respect praying men than arm chair critics. John Knox prayed, "Lord, give me Scotland or I die". It was reported that the queen said he feared the prayer of John Knox more than 10,000 British soldiers. That man had in hands the control gear of Scotland. Spiritual men like you and I can determine the fate of our nation if only we can pray. We all cannot sit down looking at the devil running rampant. We can show him the red card and send him off the field of play if only we can humble ourselves in the place of prayer.
Father, heal the nation(...insert name) and let your peace reign in Jesus name.
