2 Sam6:16 But as the Ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him. NLT
The story of Michal and David bring to fore an important issue in our corporate and private worship that must be addressed. King David danced in a manner that seemed "Unkingly" even to the point of going half naked. He danced and praised God when the ark of the Lord was returning to Jerusalem. Second Samuel 6:16 says that David danced with all his might before the Lord and that his wife “despised him in her heart.” It was recorded that: “Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, ‘How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!’” (2 Samuel 6:20). David gave her a good response: "David retorted to Michal, “I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord, so I CELEBRATE BEFORE THE LORD", 2 Samuel 6:21 NLT.
Princess Michal was a formal lady who worship with protocol and maintains her "dignity&royalty" in God's presence. There are people like Michal today. When they come into God's presence, they don't loosen up. They are rigid, always want to maintain their "dignity" in God's presence. When they see those that are lost in worship, shedding tears, clapping, rolling on the floor or even screaming because of God's awesomeness, they despise such people in their heart. They are careful about the neatness of their clothes and shoes. The look on as people throw themselves on God in wreckless abandon in worship but their heart antagonizes such. Unfortunately, such people do not get anything tangible from the Lord.
Don't be conscious about your earthly status before God. It means nothing to Him. You don't come into God's presence thinking about your degrees and earthly attainment as a reason for being "courteous" in worship. When you come around people of lower earthly status in God's house, God's grace put you on the same level with them. Don't be conscious about your suit, blouse, shoes, hair and skin in His presence. Be a David that will put off all forms of royal dignity in God's presence and worship in wreckless abandon. Don't despise the way people choose to express their worship to God. Michal did but she didn't turn out well. We were told that she died barren. You lose something when you're too formal in His presence. Loosen up!
Father, I receive the grace to worship you wholeheartedly in Jesus name.
