OUR CONVERSATION IN THE VEHICLE

Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Sometimes, I pray and share from scriptures with my children while driving regardless of whatever time spent in family devotion at home. One morning as I was driving my children to the school, I shared God's word with them as usual and I asked them to tell me what they wanted God to do for them. The younger boy told me he wanted a bicycle. I told him God can buy him one and that he should trust him. In my sermon that morning, I already told them God can do anything for them if they believe. I waited for the older brother to tell us his prayer request. Then he said, "I want to be more like God". That struck me. I wasn't expecting something that profound from a six year old.

In my heart, I knew he had asked for the most important thing- to be like Christ. To be conformed to the image of the begotten son of God. That may seem like a meaningless prayer point to the younger brother who wanted a bicycle but I knew his request that morning was deep even though his understanding about it may be shallow. Quite a number of believers are like the younger boy, always asking for things that satisfies their cravings but with no eternal value. I have attended several prayer meetings and I've taken my time to analyze most of the prayer points we pray in most of our churches today, quite a number of them are reflective of our desire to possess the earth but no desire for eternity. If I raise prayer points on "household enemies" and the likes, the thunderous response may be deafening but when we switch to kingdom oriented prayers, I may be seen as a "dry" prayer leader yet that's what the word of God want us to pray about.

What we pray about often reflects our dominant thoughts. In Colossians3:1-2, Paul said, "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth", NLT. What kind of prayers do you think the early Apostles prayed? If they had prayed our kind of prayer, would they have taken their world for Christ and subdued kingdoms? Look at this Pauline desire: "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you", Gal 4:19 KJV. I'm sure his major prayer for those believers was that Christ be formed in their hearts. What kind of prayers dominate your prayer time? Only those whose minds are set on kingdom matters pray kingdom prayers. If you are privileged to meet Jesus in person today and He gives you the opportunity to make a single request, what will it be? Your walk with God may never experience a radical change and your spiritual life may not grow until you start praying right.

Action point

Do a review of your constant prayers and ask if they align with God's desire for your conformity to the image of Christ.
