The burial of Jesus Christ has its own significance. I am not one of those who believe his death is all there is to redemption plan and story. All the events that took place strikes an important chord.
Though, the significance of his burial have some controversies around it because some scholars just believe his spirit went to paradise after he gave up and that was all. They based their argument on Luke 23:43.
I agree that his spirit went to paradise but I believe that is not all there was to his burial. Though my theology is still evolving in this regard but I believe that down there in the grave, he did something. Let's read the scripture.
Ephesians 4:8-10 says, "That is why the Scriptures say, “When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.” [9] Notice that it says “he ascended.” This clearly means that CHRIST ALSO DESCENDED TO OUR LOWLY WORLD. [10] And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself"( NLT).
Most bible scholars agree that what Paul described here happened when he was buried. The descending to the lowly world or part of the earth refers to his burial and at his resurrection, he became empowered to give gifts unto men.
Second, I believe it was right in he grave he fought Satan&death and conquered the grave. Right there inside the earth, there was a battle that led to his conquest. That conquest is the reason we can exercise authority over Satan and his minions.
Colossians 2:14-15 says, "He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. [15] In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross"( NLT). I am of the opinion that some part of this happened in the grave.
Another scripture that affirms that Christ did something unique in the grave and did not just lie there doing nothing is Johanine saying captured in Revelation 1:18.
Revelation 1:18 says, "I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave".
Where did he take the keys of death and grave? I think it is right there under the ground. There, he fought for our liberation from sin, hell and grave. Halleluyah!!!
Christ did not die for nothing. The battle for your freedom from sin, sickness, attacks, and all battles has been fought and won. Take authority today over all the dirty dozens of the enemy
Do not spare him. He is a defeated foe.
