In the opening text, the bible told us about a king who was taught to fear God. Uzziah was that king. His tutor in the school of divine reverence was Zechariah.
When I stumbled on this verse of scriptures, It dawned on me that the fear of the Lord can be taught and learnt. This is akin to being instructed in righteousness(2Timothy 3:16-17). One can be taught to fear God and walk in his ways. The kinds of messages you expose your mind and spirit to determines to a large extent how you'll walk with God.
The things of the Spirit can be taught and learnt. They don't just come by impartation only. One of such is the fear of God. Just as men learn unrighteousness, righteousness can be learnt.
Someone once said we are not to fear God but to love him. He misunderstood the concept and attributed the fear of God to phobia. When scriptures talked about having the fear of God, a synonym for that is reverence. To fear God is to love him and walk in his ways. It is a concept in both testaments.
Paul says, "Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God" (2 Corinthians 7:1 NLT).
Who is your tutor in the school of reverence? One way to judge If a message is from God or Satan is to check the fruit it produces in the lives of people. Any message that fuels ungodliness is not of God. If you have been falling and rising as a believer, check the messages you've been listening to.
If you want to stand firm in the Lord, stay where the fear of the Lord is taught. Once your mind is programmed with the message of righteousness, untighteousness will give way.
