PREACH NOW

2 Tim4:2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.

In my 300L in the university, I was led to preach in the front of one of the blocks in my hostel. I told my room mate who was an executive in the fellowship to preach in the frontage of another block in thesame hostel. I preached under a special anointing that morning warning my hearers about the coming judgement and appealing to them to give their lives to Christ. It was still dark in the morning and one may think no one heard but I didn't know some guys were hearing me loud and clear. When it was day break, I was lying on my bed while my room mate was pressing his clothes, we heard footsteps and voice of angry boys coming towards our hostel. They entered our room demanding to know who preached in front of their hostel.

They almost injured my room mate with the hot iron he was using if not for my intervention. I told the irate boy that I was the one who preached in front of their hostel. Their ring leader sat me down talking angrily. He told he was a brother to the wife of a Bishop and how was formerly involved in church activities and so on. So need to preach to him. He warned me not to preach in their frontage again. I perceived two things from our conversation: (1) He was the reason God stirred me to preach that morning,(2) The message touched him as it was descriptive of his condition which I knew nothing about prior to the time of my preaching. Of course, they were cultists. Some of their sympathizers also told me and my room mate to soft pedal on our evangelistic activities. After four months, that man died. I was told that he was trapped in a burning building and he lost his life. I felt sad. Very sad.

It dawned on me that my message to him four months before was one of the last warning from God to him to amend his ways and give his life to Christ. Unfortunately, from the little I gathered around, he died without Christ. What if I didn't preach to him? I may live with the guilt of my inaction for years. Do not be ashamed/afraid to preach the gospel especially when there's a burden on your heart. Your listener may have one more day to live. If you fail to preach the truth to them, you may be sending the person to eternity without Christ. Even if your listeners won't accept Christ, let it be on record that you played your part in sharing the love of Christ with them. When they stand before God, it will be on record that they heard the gospel for a witness, Mt24:14. Preach now.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to preach the word in season and out of season in Jesus name.
