Ecclesiastes3:1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. NLT
God told a man about His assignment in one of the African countries. He was excited about what God told him so he packed his bags and left. He laboured fruitlessly for several years. He returned home discouraged. He asked God why all his efforts were fruitless. God told him he went before time. Later, this man returned to the same country at the right time. His ministry flourished and later, he established one of the most reputable bible schools in that country.
To jump the gun is to take action before the appropriate timing. The expression was borrowed from track event. Before sprinters run, they must hear the gun before running. Anyone who runs before the gun is shot is said to jump the gun. When that is done repeatedly by one athlete, he/she may be disqualified from the race. God works with time to fulfill His purposes and plans on earth. Sometimes, He gives us an idea or clue about what lies ahead but that doesn't necessarily mean it is time to act. God will tell you certain things ahead of time so that you can prepare but not necessarily for action. Good dreams often die on the altar of running ahead of time.
As important as the salvation of mankind is, God didn't send Christ before time, He was sent to come and die at the right time: "But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law", Galatians 4:4,NLT. If Christ had come before the appropriate time, we may not be here today. In God's programme, timing is crucial. All you read in the bible happened to time. He has a clock. God doesn't act before time, He acts right on time. Whenever you pray and God speaks to you about His plans, learn to ask further about the issue of timing for execution of His plans.
I receive the grace to wait for the appropriate timing in all I do in Jesus name.
