OUR FATHER IS A BAKER

Mt6:11 Give us today our daily bread

Sometime ago, some persons popularized a different perspective about the portion of Lord's prayer where Jesus prayed saying, "Give us this day our daily bread". They said, "Why ask for daily bread when you can own a bakery"?

This idea corrupt the very meaning of what Jesus intended in that prayer. It is like saying, "Jesus, you didn't pray well. You should have prayed that aspect this way". Could Jesus be wrong to have taught his disciples to pray asking for daily bread? Of course He wasn't.

While I agree the Lord's prayer is not cast-in-stone for believers, however, it reveals to us a pattern or a model we can adopt in our prayer lives. It should be noted that "Daily Bread" is a figurative phrase denoting daily provisions and divine supplies.

Why did Jesus teach his disciples to ask for daily bread and not ask for bakery? The answer is simple.

God want to be our source of sustenance and provision. He want to own the bakery while we receive the bread. The day we own the bakery that supplies our bread, we'll stop trusting Him for divine supplies. That doesn't mean we won't work but our jobs, businesses and career expressions are meant to be means of supply but not the source.

Man has tendency to think he is sufficient to meet his needs. The pride of "I can do it on my own" can easily set in and we'll think we don't need God to meet our needs. It is possible to be working hard and still not have your needs met especially in this economy.

The moment we get to the point of self sufficiency, we'll miss out on God's largesse for our lives because we'll be full of ourselves and we'll be disconnected from His abundant supply.

He is the abundant source that never runs dry. The Psalmist says in Psalm145:15-16, "The eyes of all look to You, And You give them their food in due time. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing". Hallelujah!!!

The owner of our bakery( God) is never tired of supplying our daily bread.

The day you start baking your own bread with your effort, you'll run out of flour and your hands will become weak.

Our bakery owner is rich in all and can supply generously without being tired. I learnt this by experience during the lockdown of 2020. I've never seen God in that dimension before.

Paul knew this truth about God that was why he said: "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus", Philippians 4:19 KJV. Hallelujah!!! He is not going to supply some but all our needs.

He is committed to doing that If we trust Him. God is my supplier, I'm the receiver. He is my baker and i'm the eater of bread. I don't need to give myself headache about trying to produce my bread.

Why go through the stress of baking bread when I can just ask for it and receive it on time? Trust God for your needs and quit using human effort.

Action point

Father, I trust you for my daily bread. I don't need a bakery because I can't maintain it. Just do the baking and I'll receive the supply. Thank you for answering my prayer, in Jesus name.
