Psalms 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: ... KJV
Reinhard Bonnke of blessed memory told the story of how some witch doctors surrounded the hotel he lodged during one of his evangelistic campaigns in one of the countries in Africa. They were busy doing their thing but he was busy sleeping.
His sleep was so sound that he cared less about what was going on outside. What he ignored is what others would have given all their attention to.
The table God prepared in the presence of David's enemies was a feasting table. In a banquet, tables are prepared with several delicacies amidst friends and well wishers but David's case was different. He was in the enemy's camp.
Can you imagine going to a party where there are armed robbers, kidnappers and ritualist? Imagine that your table is right at the centre of that hall surrounded by such evil people. I am pretty sure you wouldn't want to stay there if you know.
The world is full of wickedness and wicked people. Psalms 74:20 says, "Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty". David acknowledged this world is full of cruel people.
Sometimes, we wonder why God doesn't kill all the wicked people and rid them off the earth. Well, God is loving and merciful, he may not do that often because he gives room for the wicked to repent. That's why it is a waste of time praying death over enemies in most cases.
If all your enemies die, they may not know the greatness and power of the God you serve.
What does the great shepherd do to the sheep in such cases? He will disarm the enemies, protect the sheep and prepare a feast for the sheep while the enemy keep looking. Why are you afraid of the enemy?
The chief enemy has been fought and won on the cross(Col2:14-15). His minions are just trying to fight a battle that has been won for you.
All you need do is to stand your ground in the victory of the cross and declare, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell (Psalms27:1-2).
Dear, don't be afraid of the enemy. God won't kill them all because he want them to watch while you eat from the delicacies of salvation prepared for you. Go to the banquet table and eat.
CONFESSION: I am eating from God's banquet table in the presence of mine enemies. I refuse to live in fear of what the enemy is doing or may be doing because the victory of the cross is real and sure for me. I walk in the realities of Psalms 23 in the name of Jesus.
