Eph 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour (KJV).
WALKING IN LOVE
The subject of love is a re occuring emphasis on our pulpits. In my former church, a drama was staged on the supremacy of love over faith and hope. The scenes are still vivid in my imagination like yesterday.
The word 'love' in context of the scripture above refers to 'Agape' love. That is sacrificial love. That is a type of love that is not self-centred.
Agape love is the type of love God has towards us that made him to send Christ to die for our sins: "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners"( Romans 5:8).
Apostle Paul admonished Ephesian believers to follow God. He further stated how they are to follow God by telling them to walk in love as Christ hath loved us.
How did Christ demonstrate that love? He gave himself to us as an offering and a sacrifice to God. Hallelujah!!! The key word there is sacrifice.
In 1Cor 13, Apostle Paul took time to explain to us in details what love is all about. It is very easy to sing about loving God in an emotional way even to the point of crying yet the evidence of a love walk may not be there.
Walking in love towards God is about sacrifice and obedience. Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).
Another way to understand this is to say that, "those that walk in love with God are those that obey and please him". It is impossible to walk with God and not walk in love with men.
When we walk in love with men (believers&unbelievers), we bear with them and see how we can make the best of our relationship. Our love for people shouldn't be biased.
The God-kind of love was shown to us when we were sinners that is why God didn't forsake us in our sinful state. We are expected to do same unto others.
CONFESSION: I grow in love of the father, I walk in love with men. The seed of love is in me. As I study the word and devote myself to prayers, love shall grow and I shall mature fully in love In Jesus name.
