*REASONS THE CHURCH EXIST* Pt.5

John 4:24 *For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth*

FOR WORSHIP

The church has three fold meaning. First, the believer is the church, that is you and me. We are the "Ekklesia", those called out of the world into the kingdom of light. That is who we are.

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light"( NIV).

Second, the gathering or assembly of believers is also another representation of church. When saints or the "Ekklesia" gather, a church has gathered. This is also another biblical meaning of church.

Romans 16:5 says,  "Also give my greetings to the church that meets in their home. Greet my dear friend Epenetus. He was the first person from the province of Asia to become a follower of Christ"( NLT).

Lastly, where we meet is also called church. This is a modern meaning that never existed in bible days but we all have come to accept it as our imposed meaning. I need to clarify this because of the intertwined meanings given to church.

The gathering of God's people is to bring him worship. When we worship, we are reverencing God and giving him all that is due him.

There are two ways we give God worship. The first is through our lives that is pleasing to him. That is what Paul referred to in Romans 12:1-2( NLT) saying:

'And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him".

We learn to do this when we belong to a living church. This is one of the reasons the church exist. Another aspect of worship that is common is the offering of our praises to God. We do this through melodious sounds as we sing unto the Lord.

Hebrews 13:15 says, "Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name".

Ephesians 5:19 says, "speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord".

Action Point:

Our worship must be spiritual and biblical. That is only acceptable worship to God. The church( you and me) is created for worship and our meeting place is also a worship centre. That is why we exist- for worship.
