In recent times, I have read several articles and posts online from those demanding that the church should venture into industry. Whenever they see a church building a chapel or expanding their camp, they burst out in anger about why those churches are not building industries for the unemployed instead.
Recently, someone got angry that new dioceses were about to be created in an episcopal church setting. Some even believe our church halls should be converted to malls and camp grounds be converted to farms. This is satanic. The decline of Christianity in Europe towed this dangerous path and now churches have been sold to mosques, clubs and casinos. Europe is now a post christian society with so many anti God practices.
Those calling for conversion of churches to malls or demanding that church should venture into industry, I understand where their anger is coming from. It is coming from their anger against a failed economy. In an economy where there is so much poverty, unemployment and economic deprivation, people vent their anger anyhow just to numb their pain.
In advanced economies where government is living up to her responsibilities, you'll never hear people demand that churches should venture into industry. For instance, churches in America are between 350,000-400,000 and I have not seen or heard people agitate that those churches should venture into industry.
Churches in Nigeria is estimated at 16,146, far lesser than America yet some think the church should industrialize their country. Instead of demanding good governance from those elected into power, they are venting their anger wrongly. Is it the church that has created this high level of unemployment in Nigeria? Who is responsible for trade&commerce? What about security&strong economy, who is responsible?
Come to think of it, there are churches with thousands of people in their employ. If we close those churches down, thousands will be thrown out of jobs. Churches with building projects are creating employment for building contractors and artisans. If we stop all the projects because we want to sound politically correct, the economy will feel the impact.
As good as the things I have listed above are, they are not the primary purpose of the church. Even If all churches venture into industry as a means of economic intervention, it is not the reason for their existence. Satan is pushing this agenda hard because he wants churches to leave their core assignment to "serve tables"( Acts 6:3).
Paul says, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH" (1 Tim 3:15).
The core assignment of the church is to propagate the truth of God's word. Where and when the truth is lost in the society, the last bus stop where the truth should be found should be in the church and not elsewhere. This is the core reason for the church's existence.
