Years back, one of our lecturers in school of ministry told us about one of his spiritual fathers back in the days. When he took ill and was on sick bed, intentionally, he spew out all the medications administered to him because he was opposed to getting treated by doctors. His faith was anti science. He died.
Kenneth E. Hagin of blessed memory shared the story of an encounter he had with Jesus when his wife was sick. The doctors said she would undergo a surgery but Kenneth Hagin and wife did not appear in the hospital for surgery. They decided to exercise their faith for several months but the sickness remained.
One day, while praying at the altar, Jesus appeared to him and instructed that he allow his wife present herself for the surgery. That must have rattled his theology as a faith preacher who teaches and practiced raw faith. Eventually, he allowed her and she recovered faster than expected.
Obviously, Jesus' recommendation to them was not because they lacked faith but because it was in his design that their faith would produce result through the expertise and wisdom he has given medical doctors.
*Sometimes, as regards health, faith will produce result without drugs and at other times with drugs. That latter doesn't nullify faith*.
*I want you to know that the skill and expertise in the field of medical science is an expression of God's wisdom given to man to solve health problems. It couldn't have been from the devil who wants us perpetually sick and unwell*.
Proverbs 2:6 (CEV) says, *"All wisdom (Including the wisdom of medical science aimed at solving health problems) comes from the Lord, and so do common sense and understanding*" (Emphasis mine).
I have heard about members of a certain church who died cheaply because blood transfusion is against their doctrine. They refused it and died. If all good wisdom comes from God, why not embrace his wisdom expressed through medical science when needed?
Another set of Christians have anti medication stance. Somehow, they just believe there is something ungodly about using medications.
John 1:3 (KJV) says, *"All things (Including the substance used in making medications&injections) were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made*" (Emphasis mine).
If "All things" were made by him, then it is wise to take advantage of "All things"(medications inclusive) that are beneficial to our well being so that we can live healthy lives and be alive to fulfill our God-given purpose here on earth.
Do not die cheaply due to ignorance, the world, your family and the church still needs you around.
Our faith is what heals but using drugs and recommended prescriptions are not alternatives to faith but enhancers.
