A CULTURE OF SELF SUFFICIENCY WITHOUT GOD
I audited my sermon, teachings and perspectives from which I taught certain things, I discovered that I once tilted towards the ideas of secular humanism partly. I had one leg in Christian orthodoxy and another in secular humanism. When I discovered this, I repented.
What is secular humanism all about anyway? Secular humanism believe in man's ability to self-govern and live through life without needing the supernatural. Secular humanism doesn't believe in the supernatural or its intervention in human affairs. It posits that man is autonomous and doesn't need God.
On the surface, this may sound logically true but when you study what this philosophical stance is all about, it is not biblically true. You have heard secular humanistic ideas from some pulpits. Some of those ideas sound like: "You don't need God to be rich", "Use your brain to make good choices and stop disturbing God". Most motivational speakers are guilty of this.
Statements such as these makes people feel self-reliant without God. It removes God from the equation of our lives whereas God want us to depend on Him totally. Paul says, "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God"( 2 Cor 3:5).
In John 15:5, Jesus says, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: FOR WITHOUT ME YE CAN DO NOTHING". This is an absolute statement from our Lord Jesus Christ. As a child of God, your enabler is God not your senses.
Whatever you have achieved and all your strides, you have them because God enabled you. Paul says, "For who makes you different from anyone else? WHAT DO YOU HAVE THAT YOU DID NOT RECEIVE? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not"?(1 Cor 4:7). Permit me to say that even unbelievers who achieve certain things legally were enabled by God because He is rich towards all.
Old timers rely on God to the point where they pray asking for his intervention on all things including praying on meals, praying before driving a car, etc.
The moment we remove dependence on God from a man's life in any way, we make man a god to himself.
God is very jealous when we don't give him his glory. This is one ancient line we must never cross neither should we sacrifice it for philosophical intellectualism.
Father, I repent for not giving you your glory. I repent from thinking my wisdom and intellect has helped me thus far. From today, I shall return all the glory to you In Jesus name.
