2 Samuel 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the LORD my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen ( NLT).
A church treasurer once told me about a wealthy man in his church whose tithe does not exceed two hundred naira every sunday. This is someone who got huge contracts but he just decided to be tight fisted towards God and his people.
People may find excuses to support his meagre giving towards the church but it was discovered that he spends heavily on socializing. About two top worldly musicians sang and praised him in their album. This is not cheap. From what we know, he will pay them heavily to get his name mentioned.
It is about value. That man did not value the things of God and his kingdom, hence, he reduced the flow of his giving towards church. He valued social life, hence, he lavished his money there. Nobody on earth is stingy in every sense of the word. Those who are frugal towards you spend lavishly elsewhere.
People spend/give in the direction of what they value.
Some don't mind spending any amount to book a VIP table in a comedy show but same person will ignore the call to support missions, missionaries, church planting in rural areas. He is liberal towards comedy shows but stingy towards kingdom expansion.
Leonard Ravenhill said, "Today Christians Spend More Money On Dog Food Than On Missions".
God want you and me to value His kingdom. The moment our heart aligns with kingdom priorities, our time, money, intellect, skill, training and giftings will flow in the same direction.
Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need"( NLT).
Father, give me a heart that values your kingdom and help my heart to align accordingly in Jesus name.
