QUIET TIME( A)
While growing up under my mom, she emphasized to us the importance of observing quiet time. She bought bibles for us all and a jotter. She told us to jot lessons from our daily bible reading during our quiet time.
As a trained teacher, she took it upon herself to mark our jotters like school pupils submit their notes for marking. Then, we didn't know the importance of quiet time but as we grew in the Lord, the importance became glaring to us all. It is the reason I have been writing daily devotions for our global audience for over a decade.
What is quiet time? It is that time you spend alone with God. It is not the general family prayer time or a group prayer meeting online or onsite. Quiet time is you and God alone without distraction. It is the time you meet with God to draw strength daily.
The lost art of quiet time is the reason we have weak Christians today.
The emphasis on prayer meetings either online or onsite where people will be saying "Amen" ( though not bad) without having a personal time alone with God has produced more weaklings than men of strength. Our fathers didn't grow unto maturity that way.
I am yet to meet a strong believer who doesn't have a quiet time. Your quiet time is the time you meet with God in the day before devil meets you. It is that time we get answers to the questions that might come our way in the day. That is why it is preferable in the morning.
Speaking about Jesus, Mark 1:35 says, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed". Jesus had a habit of waking up early to pray. Little wonder why he was full of power and wisdom.
The Psalmist says, "O God, thou art My God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is" ( Psalm 63:1 KJV).
You must cultivate the habit of spending time alone with God on daily basis for an infusion of strength and wisdom. The basic things we do in quiet time is worship, prayer and bible study whilst not forgetting listening to divine instructions. This is the habit of strong Christians.
Start doing this If you desire to be strong in the Lord.
Cultivate the habit of waking up early to pray and study the word. That way, you will be laying a solid foundation for your walk with the Lord.
