There are several reasons men/women give for committing adultery. One that stands out is the excuse of not wanting to eat the same proverbial beans all the time. What they fail to realize is that beans can be transformed into bean cake, bean pudding and even what my maternal people called "gbegiri" (bean stew). So you're responsible for how you want your beans to taste. Do you get it? So the excuse of not wanting to stay faithful to your spouse does not hold water from the beans narrative. Jesus rightly labeled the generation in his day an adulterous generation(Matthew12:39). I believe our generation is not an exception because it is rife in today's world. Some men are overt about it while some women involved are covert about it. Why? Conscience tells them it is wrong.
No matter how you feel about it and whatever your justification is for engaging in adultery, just know that it is a sin. The bible says, "Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery."(Heb13:4). The judgement of God is coming hard on adulterers. This is not my word but God's. The writer of proverbs enjoined that we drink water from our cistern. In plain English, he is saying that sexual relationship should be between you and your spouse only. Any other man or woman is a bad water. You know that bad water can cause infection and diseases that leads to death. Same applies to keeping adulterous relationship.
The writer of Proverbs said, "Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone?" (Proverbs 5:16 NLT). So it is an act of indiscretion to have sex outside marriage. Whatever the reason you're giving as an excuse for staying adulterous, they hold no water in God's sight. The enemy's deception is what is making you feel your spouse is not as good as that mistress or man you're keeping outside. Your spouse is your proverbial beans. If you eat beans today and you're tired, turn him/her to bean cake and keep up with the transformation. Rev21:8 says, "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the SEXUALLY IMMORAL,...they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death". You have a choice in this matter.
Father, I receive grace to be sexually pure in this adulterous generation in Jesus name. Amen.
