TELL YOURSELF THE TRUTH
We all find it easy to tell others the truth about their lives and what they ought to do. There are people who meddle in the affairs of others unsolicited. They act as advisers and counselors because they want to obey the injunction of loving others as Jesus commanded. When they see anything that is not right about the marriage of others, their children, business, spiritual life and other areas of life, they always have a suggestion. While it is not a bad idea to have good counsel for people in need, it is much better to be the first beneficiary of the truth we know before passing it on to others. When you live in constant denial of the truth that you should tell yourself, it is a clear sign that you hate yourself. Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth shall, and the truth shall make you free"( John8:32).
An example of someone who told himself the truth was the prodigal son. This is what the bible said about him, “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you," (Luke 15:17-18 NLT). He realized how far he had gone astray and he made up his mind that he would go back to ask his father for forgiveness. If he hadn't told himself the truth about his condition, he would have remained in his suffering and would have died in poverty. Some are on the path of destruction yet they're pointing others to the path of life. There's no other sign of self- hatred that could be greater than that. Jesus didn't say you should love others more than yourself but to love others as yourself. You don't love others and neglect yourself.
Often, we always know the truth about what ought to be in our lives but we deny it. We are good at shifting blames and giving excuses. Even when others point us to the truth about what needs correction in our lives, we either despise or shun the person yet we're quick to counsel others even if our counsel is good and applicable to their lives. It shows that we are hypocrites. Ask yourself sincere questions about your relationship with God, your finances, marriage, family, academics, business and life in general. Admit what you've done wrong like the prodigal son did and make amend. That's one vital sign that shows you love yourself.
Father, I receive the grace to accept the truth in Jesus name.
