Proverbs21:9 It’s better to live alone in the corner of an attic than with a quarrelsome wife in a lovely home. NLT

Sometimes ago, I was amazed at the outrage on social media over the teaching of a revered servant of God on marriage. He simply taught what is written in scriptures on love and submission in marriage. This man has been married for a over three decades without drame. A lot of those who criticized him may not be enjoying the marital bliss he's experiencing but they simply didn't fancy word-based instruction for making marriage work. We don't bend or twist God's word for popular opinion. The word is what it is. Nothing can change eternal principles. The Bible says, "Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens"(Psl119:89).

I often say that a believer doesn't need "Marriage seminar" rather what we need is a "Word Seminar". All that we need for life( marriage inclusive) is in the word. If we have the word taught clearly and we follow it, we'll have peaceful marriages. Before I got married, I learnt a lot from the ministry of Bishop David Oyedepo. I think it is wise we learn from men and women whose lives are producing result. He emphasized on reading books on marriage and studying the book of Proverbs Chapter 4-7 to understand more about the immoral woman and the kind of woman that a man shouldn't marry. I read the book of proverbs especially those chapters 4-7 for weeks. As I read further, In Prov 21:9, the bible spoke about a quarrelsome wife. Immediately, I knew that kind of woman won't help my life. Dear single, no matter how spiritual or beautiful a lady is, if she has tendencies for being quarrelsome, don't marry her. Also, if a man is a fighter, don't marry him. That's a biblical recommendation.

Forget about seeing him/her in a vision or his charisma. Don't marry "anointing", check his/her values. A life that is not Christ-like is not worth uniting with in a sacred institution like marriage. There are certain characters that can hardly be hidden in people if we pay attention to them. Your love shouldn't be blind. We've read about husbands killing wives and vice versa. It is better to live on the rooftop than to sleep on the same bed with a quarrelsome spouse. If you start receiving slaps in courtship and you're experiencing outburst of anger in a terrific manner, you should know the future spell doom. It is better to be single trusting God to be married rightly than to be married praying to God to solve marital crisis.
