Isaiah48:17 *This is what the LORD says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the LORD your God,who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow*( NLT).
During my final year research project in the university, I was returning from the lab on a sunny day when I heard the Lord ask me a question: 'why do you want to marry sister 'X'? I was jolted like a statue in the middle of an overflowing river. The voice was clear. I knew I heard God.
Proverbs 16:2 says, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD”. God already weighed my motives and they were not in tandem with his.
I couldn't utter a word of reply because I wanted to engage that sister simply because she was fair to behold, smooth skinned and I love her body structure and carriage. She's had hour glass shape and stunning physique. That was all, nothing else.
I lost sight of destiny and focused on the container without checking If the content was good for my journey. I saw the present at that time but didn't peep into my future with the eye of the Spirit to check If we were fit. It was all for my carnal desires.
Somehow, I couldn't respond to that question because I knew where God was driving at. I killed the thought and perished the idea. God began to teach me somethings about patience. He showed me the path that I must follow on the matter.
In my eyes, I knew what was good for me but God said it wasn't good for me and I accepted his verdict. Can God interrupt your plans and desires? After weighing your motives and you're found wanting, can you surrender to him and forsake your plans?
One reason most believers do not listen or obey God's voice on crucial matters is because they don't trust God enough to manage their lives.
Some think their choice is better than God's choice for them because they fear he might give them what is bad. Christians who are wired to think this way do not know God neither do they know his ways.
In revealing the true nature of God to us, Jesus said, “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? [10] Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! [11] So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him"( Mt 7:9-11).
God is working in your best interest. He cannot give you what is bad. Don't be wise in your own eyes. He is a giver of good gifts according to the scripture cited above.
The day you stop playing pranks with God and you are ready to obey him totally, you will hear Him clearly.
Get to that point where you're pliable in God's hands and don't be rigid. That decision you're about to make, let the Spirit of God teach you what is good for you and not the flesh or worldly ideas.
Why do you want to take that step?
Father, I receive grace to stay sensitive to your voice and to obey In Jesus name. Amen
