SCARCITY OF REVELATION AND INSIGHT

1 Samuel 3:1 *Meanwhile, boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon* ( NLT).

In the days of Eli the priest, it was reported that messages from the Lord were very rare and visions were quite uncommon. It should be noted that Israel as a nation maintains contact with God through visions and revelations aside from the Mosaic law.

On several occasion, God revealed secrets to their leaders or even send angels to give certain messages to some people as in the case of Gideon, Manoah. During the time of Moses, they had issues that required Moses to make enquiries from the Lord and the Lord responded. Same applies to Joshua. God spoke to Joshua for the benefit of his people and even gave them a winning battle strategy.

Here comes the time of Eli, that channel of revelation and insight into God's secret closed and no one knew what God had in mind. This is a despicable condition in the life of the Jews. Israel is a prophetic nation and it was  unusual when no one brought a word from the Lord to them.

This condition is not good for any child of God as well. A situation where you have been hearing God before but now everything ceased, it can lead to loss and untimely death. The aftermath can be fatal. There are people who hear God on the smallest issues even on route to pass through when going out but that channel closed all of a sudden.

What is it exactly that can cause a scarcity of revelation and insight into God's mind? I will sum it up as carnality. When we begin to give attention to carnal things more than spiritual things, we risk experiencing a scarcity of revelation. What most people fail to realize is that being in the Spirit and keep up with him in fellowship is the surest key to staying sensitive.

Revelation 1:10 says, "I WAS IN THE SPIRIT on the Lord's day, AND HEARD behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet". If John was not in the Spirit on the Lord's day, he wouldn't have heard the voice of the Spirit.

Carnality hinder us from our consecration. The consecration that opened us to channels and dimensions of God will be closed as we pay attention to carnal things. Some believers watch movies more than they study their bible. They eat more than necessary and do not have a day set aside for fasting. So bad!

If you have a consecration that keeps the flow of revelation open and you stop it, you risk experiencing a scarcity of revelation. The little time of prayer, fasting and word study routine you have decided to observe must be kept. Be consistent with it. That's your consecration for the flow of insight.

Evil people have routines that keeps them in touch with demons. I traveled to an African country where I was told their former president doesn't eat or drink for the first seven days of every year locked within. At the end of that waiting period, he must sleep with a virgin. That man lasted 38 years in power against all odds. What he did yearly was the consecration he needed to sustain himself in power for that long.

Spiritual men who have inisghts into mysteries have routine. You may call it 'religious' routine but that routine you despise is the reason they experience a dimension of God you are not experincing. When we have routines for certain spiritual exercises, God register it and waits for us at that time.

Action Point:

PRAYER*: Father, forgive me for closing the channel of revelation and insight through carnality and lack of consecration. From today, revive what is dead in my life in Jesus name.
