Recently, I listened to a conversation between some priests who lamented on how some preachers wasted years in school studying courses they never used.
He mentioned names of notable preachers in Nigeria who are scholars in their fields but left their secular career for full time ministry. He opined that If they had known earlier that they would end up in ministry, they could have gone to the seminary instead of going to the university.
I agree with that partially but not fully. I believe university education have its own advantage in the life of a minister even If he won't use his certificate. Good education will broaden the horizon of anyone.
The point he raised that struck me was when he mentioned how traditional worshippers always enquire from "Ifa"( a divination god in West Africa among Yoruba people) what the future holds for a child, the do's and don'ts and even the profession of the child so that he/she can be ordered aright.
Truly, those in African Traditional Religion always do that the moment they give birth to a child. It is the price they pay so that they can order the next generation on the path prescribed by "Ifa". They'll say they want to check the "Akosejaye" ( future) of the child.
Reading through scriptures in Judges 13:12, I found something similar. Manoah, the father of Samson asked the angel of the Lord how they should govern/order the life of their soon-to-be born child. Now, that was a father with a sense of purpose. He knew that each child should be raised and ordered according to their purpose and destiny.
Some parents rear their children like animals but are not raising them. A child should be raised with a purpose in mind.
The first person that should pay the price of purpose discovery for any child are the parents. While you may not have full insight into God's plans for that child, you can have a faint idea and lead that child along the path.
Pastor Jerry Eze's testimony about how his mother told him he will be preacher and prayer man whose prayers will shake the world is proof of what I am teaching. When he got a job with a multinational company, instead of his mother to rejoice and share testimony in church on how poverty has come to an end in her life, she reminded her son what the Lord told her about him.
Dear parent, pay the price to discover your children's assignment in life so that you will not mislead them. We have many misled children today because their parents insisted they walk in a path that is not theirs. Little wonder why we have many unfulfilled people around.
