Recently, as I read the book of Genesis, I began to see God in a new light. Certain aspects of his nature became clearer to me.
While God spoke to Isaac and made promises to him, I saw something that caught my attention. You may ask what that is?
I discovered that the fulfilment of the promises God made to Isaac was conditioned on the obedience of Abraham his father. Meaning that the obedience of his father was the reason God blessed him and made his promises come to pass in his life( Genesis 26:5).
Reading this, my eyes opened. It dawned on me that children can be blessed by God through the obedience of their parents who walk with the Lord and the opposite can happen when they refuse to walk with God.
Some parents have paid certain prices that will have positive impact in the lives of children yet unborn in their lineage such that when God looks down from heaven on those children, he remembers what their parents have done.
Dear parent, what are you depositing for the next generation? Blessings or curses? Are your actions opening doors or closing it for the next generation?
As a father, I want you to know that today's actions or inactions will not only affect you but your coming generation. There are things you'll do that will attract generational blessings or a generational curse.
Pastor E.A. Adeboye once told a story in Open Heavens devotional about a man who stole bike. The owner of that bike placed a curse on the thief and his children saying whenever they eat rice, they will experience trouble.
The children of the man who stole bike are now born again but rice was their problem when they ate it. They came to pastor Adeboye for prayers and the Lord revealed that a man whom their father stole his bike laid a curse on them. He instructed they buy another bike and give to the man on behalf of their father. When they did, the problem stopped finally.
If not for God's mercies, those children will keep suffering for sins they did not commit. I know a lady who could have been helped by some top persons in the academia of a top rated university but was ashamed to go there because of her father's wickedness in that department when he was alive.
Fathers and mothers, be generational in your thinking and action. Consider what the impact might be on your unborn generation.
I desire a situation where my children, grand children and even great grandchildren will benefit tremendously from my obedience and walk with the Lord.
