SIGHT WITHOUT INSIGHT
1Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Several years back, I read the story of a blind lyricist who composed thousands of hymns. Fanny Jane van Alstyne (nee Crosby) was an American poet, lyricist and composer. She wrote over 8,000 hymns and gospel songs with over 100 million copies printed despite being blind shortly after birth. She was known as the 'Queen of Gospel Song Writers'. Despite the fact that she lived almost all her life in a blind state, her music ministry was impactful and her heart longed for eternity.
Some of Crosby's best known songs include 'Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour'! Blessed Assurance', 'To God Be the Glory' and many others. One of the lines of 'Blessed Assurance' reads, "Visions of rapture now burst on my sight". "One of the worst thing in life is to have sight without vision. There are two eye sights God gave to every man. However, we are conversant with the physical eye sight that make up our five senses. While it is not good to be physically blind but it is much worse to be blind spiritually and not see the visions of God. Vision in context implies insight*. It is God's desire for you and me to have insight into spiritual realities.
The reason for our weak and impassionate pursuit on spiritual matters is largely because we do not have insight about those things. For example, a man that has insight about heaven will long for it, a man that has insight about prayer and the word will hardly miss prayer&word time because he'll live as though his total being depend on those things. Truly, it does. Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17 saying, "asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and INSIGHT so that you might grow in your knowledge of God". Nothing beats having deep insight about spiritual things. Without physical sight, Fanny saw the visions of rapture with angels descending. She had insight about a place where people with physical eye sight couldn't see. This is a call to deeper fellowship with God. The closer you are to God, the deeper your insight( vision) will be.
Father, give me insight into spiritual realities in Jesus name.
