BIBLIOLOGY

Exegeting scriptures is an art EVERY child of God must learn. I'm still learning scholarly exegesis and I wish everyone can learn simple exegesis..

I have done some exegetical exposé on this platform before and it rattled a few persons. 3 John 2 that some word of faith movement preachers use in supporting materialism comes to mind and 1 Corinthians 11 where Paul speak about "eating the Lord's supper unworthily" .

That exposé is still fresh in my memory. I got reactions that made it look like I was supporting sinning believers to eat holy communion without restraint whereas, I only stated what Paul said. We collect offerings&tithes in our churches without a caveat but when it comes to communion, we lay down plenty rules citing Paul whereas, Paul never said those things.

The challenge that comes with exegesis is that it breaks our old knowledge and reveals THE TRUTH to us in a way we've not seen or heard before.

When this happens, we fight to retain old tradition of misinterpretation as against upholding the revealed truth.

There are many preachers who have seen certain light in their study but they lack the strength to correct their errors and uphold the revealed truth in God's word because of age-long traditions.

And when these age-long traditions put money in our pockets as preachers or corporately as a church, often, we ignore the truth and fight to retain age-long traditions.

The other day, I was teaching my students in the class why I know that "First born offering" is unbiblical. When I finished with them, they were all looking at me like something I can't describe.😄😄😄

You know it is very difficult to leave practices that has benefits but we have no option than to stand for the truth once delivered unto the saints.

Whatever the scripture meant to the original readers and hearers is what we should try to unravel.

Meaning can't change over centuries because of our experience and prejudices. All these ideas that makes it look like one scripture can mean several things and that the Holy Spirit can give different meaning to one scripture is a satanic ideology from the pit of hell.

"A text cannot mean what it could never have meant for its original readers/hearers". Gordon Fee

Enough said but let me leave you with a BIG question that requires exegetical study. However, I'll give an exegetical material you can read: "According to Malachi 2:16, does God hate divorce"?
